The high-flying successor to Wizard101 has come one step closer to an actual release date: October 2012. Developer KingsIsle Entertainment has announced two Pirate101 pre-launch bundles that super fans of the franchise might appreciate. This doesn't change the fact that Pirate101 will be free-to-play at launch, but extra dedicated players can enjoy special bonuses for ponying up a pretty penny.

"Over the last several weeks we've had hundreds of thousands of players sign-up for the Pirate101 closed Beta, but our plan has been that we only let a small subset of that number in," KingsIsle VP of Marketing Fred Howard said in a release. "Today, we are offering players the chance to purchase pre-launch bundles that feature game access and virtual item options that will never be available for sale in the game again."

How do beta access and the option to start playing the live version of Pirate101 a week before the non-paying players sound? If that doesn't tickle your fancy, each bundle offers players a full one-year membership to Pirate101 along with other features. This is what your $60 or $80--no joke--will get you:

Boochbeard Bundle$89.99 ($200.00 of membership and item value)

  • Automatic entry into the Pirate101 closed Beta

  • Full one-year membership to Pirate101

  • One-week head start to live game when it launches in October

  • An exclusive in-game pet Scarakeet

  • An enormous pirate hideaway – the Castaway's Cove

  • Your own parrot mount

  • An exclusive Cat Pirate companion

  • The Dread Pirate's Outfit

  • A "Ruby Slicer" sword

  • Virtual Items will be awarded to characters at live game launch.

Gandry Bundle$59.99 ($100.00 of membership and item value)

  • Full one-year membership to Pirate101

  • One-week head start to live game when it launches in October

  • An exclusive in-game pet Scarakeet (awarded to characters at live game launch).

Based on our time with Pirate101's closed beta, well-to-do mega fans might be remiss not to at least pick up the Gandry Bundle, but then again, that might defeat the purpose of this whole "free-to-play" thing. Stay tuned for when Pirate101 gets a more concrete release date.
