ITT highlights new VEAM Rectangular Plastic Connector during 2012 InnoTrans International Trade Fair for Transport Technology

Design offers reduced weight, size for manufacturers

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- In conjunction with its participation in the 2012 InnoTrans International Trade Fair for Transport Technology, ITT Corporation (NYS: ITT) is highlighting its VEAM Rectangular Plastic Connector (VRPC) solution for the rail industry.

This innovation is a new range of plastic, rectangular connectors for the VEAM brand that are 80 percent lighter and 30 percent smaller than the previous metal form. The connector is qualified for the industry-compliant IRIS rating for both smoke and fire resistance. The connectors' specifications can be adjusted to meet a wide variety of applications for rail cabins such as air conditioning controls, fire control systems, LCD displays and seats.

"Today's rail manufacturers are focused on reducing weight, which has significant cost benefits over the life cycle of a train, while maintaining rigorous safety standards," said Anh Phan, vice president of marketing for ITT's Interconnect Solutions business. "Lightweight components can play a key role in their success, and the VRPC is the latest addition to our innovative array of solutions for the railway industry."

ITT designs and manufactures a variety of highly engineered technologies for the rail industry, ranging from the newest suspension systems, hydraulic dampers and shock absorbers, to a variety of vibration isolation products and seating controls, to connectors that are used in applications such as engine diagnostics, brake controls, environmental conditioning, passenger display systems, networking and lighting controls.
