Calorie consciousness
(NYS: MCD) is going to start posting calorie counts on its menu boards and drive-thru menus. The move will affect some 14,000 U.S. restaurants and drive-thrus, Reuters reports. Regulations and public opinion were going to make calorie posting a reality sooner or later, but McDonald's gets some good publicity by stepping up with this move.

Pricey gas
More than 50 independent dealers in New Jersey and Pennsylvania increased gas prices today to more than $8 a gallon to protest what they say are Lukoil's unfair wholesale prices, according to a report on The Huffington Post. Lukoil, Russia's second-largest oil company, defended its zone pricing. Meanwhile, 24/7 Wall St. reported this week that two major reports on national gasoline prices show the cost per gallon continuing to go up.

Number of "unbanked" Americans increases
The number of U.S. households without a bank account increased by more than 800,000 in the past three years, according to a FDIC survey released today. An estimated 8.2% of households (about 10 million) are "unbanked" and another 20.1% households (or 24 million) are "underbanked," according to the FDIC. One-third of survey respondents reported that they did not have enough money to open or fund an account while 21% said they don't need or want an account, reported CNNMoney.
