Amazon.com has unveiled its second-generation Kindle Fire tablet line, introducing a feature-packed 8.9-inch model in addition to an updated version of the original.
One thing made clear is that Amazon is willing to compete on price, even potentially losing on margins to gain market share. Its new tablet price points seem nothing less than declarations of war on competitors. Take the revamped, entry-level Kindle Fire -- at $159, it signicantly undercuts Google's $199 Nexus 7. And Amazon's brand-new Kindle Fire HD, priced at $499, is an 8.9-inch, 4G-enabled tablet with 32GB of internal memory -- clear competition for Apple's iPad, but $230 less.
