Nope, no typos here--we double checked. Veteran games publisher Konami and mobile social gaming network GREE present Metal Gear Solid: Social Ops. Likely headed for iOS and Android devices worldwide this year, Social Ops was developed in Unity for a 100 percent 3D experience, according to Pocket Gamer. Players will employ stealth and espionage tactics similar to that of the console games.

Of course, Social Ops expects players to cooperate (asynchronously, we imagine) to take down one of those infernal Metal Gear war machines. Other than that, few other gameplay details were divulged during Konami's 25th anniversary event for the Metal Gear series in Japan.

Konami has reportedly been on a tear on the social games front, but this is likely one of the company's riskiest moves. Will fans of the franchise be interested in a social game for their smartphones? We'll see whether Solid Snake invades the hearts and minds of social gamers later this year.
