Intel and Motorola have sent out invites to a press event on Sept. 18, hinting that the dynamic duo will unveil a new Android phone powered by a Medfield Atom chip. Motorola is now owned by Google, which has also worked with Intel to optimize Android for its chips. Thus far, Intel has been conservative with its smartphone design wins, going after smaller and less important markets, but the chip giant continues to incrementally approach the mainstream and this unveiling will likely be for exactly that purpose. When it comes to dominating markets, it doesn't get much better than Intel's position in the PC microprocessor arena.
