Tesoro Becomes the New King of the West

Tesoro soared 9.5% after putting together a deal that, if approved, will make it the largest refiner on the West Coast. The beauty of this transaction is in the details, like purchasing a 266,000-barrel-per-day refiner and more than 800 gas stations for $175 million. Better yet, this portion of the deal is expected to boost Tesoro's EBITDA by one-third in 2013. The company also expects savings of $250 million through synergies between the new assets and the company's current operations.
