Devon Energy (NYS: DVN) reported earnings Wednesday. Here are the numbers you need to know.

EPS came in at $0.55. The 24 earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ forecast $0.81 per share. GAAP EPS of $1.18 for Q2 were 82% lower than the prior-year quarter's $6.54 per share. (The prior-year quarter included $6.11 per share in earnings from discontinued operations.)

Margin details
For the quarter, gross margin was 71.8%, 420 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 34.3%, 1,860 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 18.6%, 7,920 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter.

Looking ahead
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $2.61 billion. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $0.98.

Next year's average estimate for revenue is $10.34 billion. The average EPS estimate is $4.11.
