Altera Crushes Earnings Estimates

EPS came in at $0.50. The 27 earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ averaged $0.39 per share. GAAP EPS of $0.50 for Q2 were 23% lower than the prior-year quarter's $0.65 per share.

Margin details
For the quarter, gross margin was 69.6%, 130 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 34.3%, 910 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 35.0%, 410 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter.

Looking ahead
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $471.1 million. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $0.44.

Next year's average estimate for revenue is $1.79 billion. The average EPS estimate is $1.69.
