Yu-Gi-Oh! BAM tips and strategies straight from the dealer's hand

We know you're slamming down monster and spells like a card boss in Yu-Gi-Oh! BAM on Facebook. But the question is ... are you doing it right? That's what we recently asked Frima Studio producer Helene Fortin, and boy, did she take the opportunity to school us or what?

For instance, did you know that you're better off playing all of the cards in your hand, in most cases? (Unless, of course, you're setting up a nasty combo.) Check out a bunch more Yu-Gi-Oh! BAM best practices in our chat with Helene below.

What are some general deck-building strategies you can share?

Ideally, try to have more monsters than spells in your deck. A good ratio is 10 monsters to five spells. Pay close attention to the effects of each card. Try to see which cards can be played in combination with others to create interesting chains of effects. Experiment! There is no "best deck." Try to make your own "best deck," and change it often to keep your opponents guessing.

How about play strategies? When and how should we use certain types of cards?

In most cases, you should always try to empty your hand by playing all your cards. This way, you get a wider range of options on your next draw. There are some cases, though, where keeping a card in your hand might be a good strategy (e.g. racking up for a bigger BAM later in the duel).

How can we make best use of our friends in-game?

Duel with friends often! This can give new ideas on how to build your deck. Plus, friend duels award Card Pieces with which you can buy very good cards. Gift often! Gifts are free to send and free to receive. Whether it's a power-up, a bit of energy, a card or some currency, a gift always comes in handy. Also, don't forget that you can get help from friends during duels. Sometimes they restore your life points, sometimes they hurt the opponent.

Anything to say about best practices for Yu-Gi-Oh! BAM in general?

Collect lots of cards! The more cards you have, the more varied your decks can be, and the better equipped you are to face any challenge. If you're having a hard time with a duel in a chapter, don't forget that you can use help from friends and power-ups. Power-ups can even be purchased during a duel, in case you run out.
