The newest Nintendo console in town isn't Wii U, but 3DS XL
Sometimes, bigger can be better, but that depends on who you ask. Nintendo revealed a brand new handheld gaming console just last night (as of this writing), a revision of the existing 3DS handheld known as the 3DS XL. With screens that are 90 percent larger and a battery that lasts for up to 6.5 hours, this hardware revision is set to launch in Europe and Japan on July 28 and in the U.S. on August 19.
Oh, and it'll cost $199.99, roughly $30 more than the existing model after taxes. The style of the 3DS has also been redesigned to look less sleek and more--dare we say--cute? Just look at those curved edges, big old home screen buttons and those adorable face buttons. This thing is charmer, no doubt.
But not much has changed about the 3DS in this revision, technologically speaking--aside from that longer battery life. With so many other mobile gaming devices--including smartphones and tablets--opting for larger screens, it makes a whole lot of sense for Nintendo to retort with its own large-and-in-charge product. But will consumers bite on that bigger price tag?
