Savings Experiment: Toasters

There are many different kinds of toaster ovens on the market, but choosing the right option for your home can be daunting. Here, our experts weigh in on which models are sure to toast your bread and not your budget.

If you're looking for a frugal option, Proctor Silex has an extra-large toaster oven that includes broil, bake and toast functions for the budget-friendly price of $25. It also comes with a shut-off timer, and can toast four slices of bread at a time. This is definitely a no-frills model, but it gets the job done for little money.

If you're in the market for an upscale toaster, Breville's Smart Oven Convection Toaster comes with an abundance of bells and whistles. This model boasts an LCD screen, nine preset options, multiple rack positions, and can accommodate up to six slices of bread. However, it also has a $250 price tag.

You don't have to drain your savings to reap the benefits of a high-performance toaster, though. Black and Decker makes a toaster that is also a digital rotisserie and convection oven, complete with an LCD screen. It comes with functions similar to the Breville, and can toast up to six slices at a time, but won't burn your budget at $99.

If you engage in some price comparing online and are able to cash in on free shipping offers, you could score yourself one of these models for even less -- and you can "toast" to that.
