That's right, the long-awaited "Facebook game for gamers" is officially live on Facebook. French publisher Ubisoft and developer Loot Drop's Ghost Recon Commander launched today on the social network. Billed as a social game that the "hardcore" gaming crowd will actually enjoy, Ghost Recon Commander already makes bold claims out of the gate.

In the social shooter, players assume the role of one of three character classes that specializes in one area of combat. Then, players are able to take their specialized friends on missions with them asynchronously, making the best use out of their unique attributes possible. Need some extra health? Bring an Assault fellow along. How about some extra range? Find a Recon.

At first glance, the game makes for some interesting choices at the very least, but we'll see soon enough whether Commander is enough to lure in the core gamers. Frankly, Loot Drop's first game since falling out with RockYou already has a competitor out of the gate: Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, the console shooter it's tied to. Regardless, it's tough not to be intrigued by such bold claims, so see for yourself below.
