Spectra Energy Misses on the Top and Bottom Lines

EPS came in at $0.51. The 12 earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ averaged $0.52 per share. GAAP EPS of $0.51 for Q1 were 7.3% lower than the prior-year quarter's $0.55 per share. (The prior-year quarter included $0.01 per share in earnings from discontinued operations.)

For the quarter, gross margin was 51.2%, 80 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 33.5%, 80 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 21.6%, 50 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter.
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $1.20 billion. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $0.42.
Next year's average estimate for revenue is $5.62 billion. The average EPS estimate is $1.82.
The stock has a four-star rating (out of five) at Motley Fool CAPS, with 812 members out of 840 rating the stock outperform, and 28 members rating it underperform.
