The next game from the Angry Birds makers won't be an Angry Birds after all. Gamasutra reports that developer Rovio has acquired the rights to developers Snappy Touch and Mystery Coconut's Casey's Contraptions property. As a result, the original iPad release has been pulled from the App Store in preparation for Rovio's take on the puzzler set to launch this summer.

"Working with Noel [Llopis, Snappy Touch founder] and Miguel [A. Friginal, Mystery Coconut founder] has been fantastic, and this is a game that we all fell in love with from the first play," Rovio VP of franchise development Ville Heijari told Gamasutra. "The gameplay is a perfect fit in our arsenal with its approachable, fun and highly addictive take on the physics puzzler genre. We are currently reworking the title to enhance it, and getting ready to re-introduce it in a true 'expect the unexpected' Rovio style launch to an even larger audience."

Rovio first teased the buyout at the tail end of a back-patting video for the 1 billionth Angry Birds download. According to Gamasutra, the (hopefully) new-and-improved Casey's Contraptions will hit iOS and Android devices at the same time this summer. And we're sure the fuming fowl will find their way into Casey's world somehow.
