Google wants its own Game Center for Android devices [Rumor]

The latest from the rumor mill says that Google looks to take a cue from Apple's mobile masterminds. According to Business Insider's sources, Google has its own mobile social game network in the works, much like Game Center on iPhone and iPad. It's currently one of the major differentiators between Android and iPhone gaming, something Goggle isn't happy about.

"They are starting to really understand all of the needs and wants to make a game really successful," a source close to developers told Business Insider. "As recently as even a year ago, that really wasn't part of their institutional DNA, But I think they're getting there."

At the moment, Android game developers use a variety of third party tools to add that social mojo to their games, like OpenFeint and Japanese game giant DeNA's Mobage. But Google has finally realized how important it is to have its very own network to perpetuate the Google brand, and Business Insider guesses that it will somehow incorporate Google+.

The Google-branded Game Center will feature achievements, leader boards and friend discovery, just like its iOS counterpart. And to think Google already used up the most brilliant name for such a service. What a bummer. We've reached out to Google for comment.
