Will The Elder Scrolls Online teach social games even more lessons?

You know that game that kidnapped your roommate for, I don't I know, this entire past winter? Skyrim ... right? That's it! Well, the game's creator, Bethesda Softworks, look to take Skyrim and slap it online. OK, not exactly, but at least that's what we want the massively multiplayer online game (MMO) The Elder Scrolls Online to bewhen it finally launches.

Whenever that is--Bethesda and publisher ZeniMax Media say the MMO will land in 2013. All other details that the duo look to reveal will be exclusive to the June issue of Game Informer magazine. What's known about The Elder Scrolls Online is that it will be released for PCs and Macs at the same time. That detail alone is telling. If the MMO will be optimized for both PC and Mac, that means Macs will have to run The Elder Scrolls Online just as well (at lower settings, of course).

We get the feeling that this MMO won't sport the same graphics as, say, Skyrim for that reason. But hey, Bethesda could always prove that assumption wrong. (In fact, this writer in particular is banking on it.) Regardless, with how successful Skyrim has been, The Elder Scrolls Online stands to be an MMO monster--perhaps one that social games could stand to learn from.

"It will be extremely rewarding finally to unveil what we have been developing the last several years," The Elder Scrolls Online game director Matt Firor said in a release. "The entire team is committed to creating the best MMO ever made – and one that is worthy of The Elder Scrolls franchise."
