InterDigital Misses Where It Counts
InterDigital (NAS: IDCC) reported earnings on April 25. Here are the numbers you need to know.

For the quarter ended March 31 (Q1), InterDigital met expectations on revenues and missed estimates on earnings per share.
Compared to the prior-year quarter, revenue shrank and GAAP earnings per share dropped significantly.
Margins contracted across the board.
InterDigital logged revenue of $69.3 million. The three analysts polled by S&P Capital IQ expected to see a top line of $69.5 million on the same basis. GAAP reported sales were 12% lower than the prior-year quarter's $78.5 million.

EPS came in at $0.24. The three earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ predicted $0.30 per share. GAAP EPS of $0.24 for Q1 were 53% lower than the prior-year quarter's $0.51 per share.

For the quarter, gross margin was 66.5%, 1,320 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 28.0%, 1,950 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 15.8%, 1,390 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter.
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $67.5 million. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $0.30.
Next year's average estimate for revenue is $293.5 million. The average EPS estimate is $1.50.
The stock has a four-star rating (out of five) at Motley Fool CAPS, with 1,249 members out of 1,294 rating the stock outperform, and 45 members rating it underperform. Among 313 CAPS All-Star picks (recommendations by the highest-ranked CAPS members), 302 give InterDigital a green thumbs-up, and 11 give it a red thumbs-down.
