Sonic Automotive Meets on the Top Line, Misses Where It Counts

Non-GAAP EPS came in at $0.30. The seven earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ predicted $0.33 per share on the same basis. GAAP EPS of $0.32 for Q1 were 23% higher than the prior-year quarter's $0.26 per share.

For the quarter, gross margin was 15.7%, 10 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 2.7%, 10 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 1.0%, 20 basis points better than the prior-year quarter.
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $2.15 billion. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $0.43.
Next year's average estimate for revenue is $8.54 billion. The average EPS estimate is $1.66.
The stock has a two-star rating (out of five) at Motley Fool CAPS, with 81 members out of 119 rating the stock outperform, and 38 members rating it underperform.
