PetSmart offers prizes galore, including $25K, in its Facebook game

Giant retail chain PetSmart has pet owners flipping in excitement over a memory matching card game on Facebook called "PetSmart Flip for Grain-Free Match Game". Each day, the top five scorers can get a $50 store gift card. Another 12K players will get a $5 coupon off a bag of grain-free pet food, which is likely from the following five products: ORGANIX, Nature's Recipe, Nutro Natural Choice, Hill's Science Diet Ideal Balance Grain-Free, and Wellness CORE. Of course, the single, grand prize is the $25K, while a hundred-odd more will be getting actual bags of the stuff, some including a year's worth.

Memory card games (paired with sweepstakes) are a simple and popular concept among Facebook advergames. Household goods-maker Simplehuman used this approach last fall. Since players are forced to recognize cards to win and the cards are branded, this makes it easy to imprint brands onto players. All the cards in the PetSmart Facebook game are logos of the five grain-free products mentioned above. The game itself is divided into three levels, with a card layout of 3x4, 4x4, and then 4x5. Your final score is a total of how well you do in all three levels. So far, the highest scores are in the 22K range. If you think you can top that, give it a spin.
