House of the Day: Historic Ranch in Santa Fe

You can keep your flashy waterfront contemporaries and overpriced urban apartments because, sometimes, all you need is a little ranch to make you wildly happy.

Granted, it's not your average ranch. The $4.6 million La Estancia de Cieneguilla in Santa Fe, N.M., is kind of unbelievable. For one, it was established in 1695. Also, it's located at the base of a spectacular, petroglyph-laden black basalt mesa and is set on 45 acres of irrigated pastures and hills, and includes a wooded stretch of the Santa Fe River. The property is peppered with windmills, ponds and watering tanks, and even boasts a stable and corral.

The ranch house itself is pretty spectacular in its own right, with soaring, cathedral ceilings, colorful interiors, fireplaces and magnificent views of the sprawling grounds from every room. The home features three bedrooms and three full bathrooms across its 3,792 square feet.
