The Newest Way to Play the Natural Gas Boom

Updated

The following video is part of our "Motley Fool Conversations" series, in which industrials editor/analyst Brendan Byrnes and consumer-goods editor and analyst Austin Smith discuss topics around the investing world.

In today's edition, Brendan and Austin discuss a major milestone for natural gas as a transportation fuel. Chrysler (owned by Fiat) will be the first automaker to manufacture a factory-built pickup that is mostly powered by natural gas. GM has also announced that it will sell natural gas pickups, but its trucks will be sent to a supplier to be converted. Ford also has been developing natural gas engine technology with natural gas engine converter Westport Innovations. Brendan discusses whether natural gas as a transportation fuel is ready for prime time -- and whether these auto companies can ride the wave of cheap natural gas to bigger profits.
