How The Wheels Came Off Seacor Holdings' Bus
Seacor Holdings (NYS: CKH) filed its 10-K on Feb. 24. Here are the numbers you need to know.

For the quarter ended Dec. 31 (Q4), Seacor Holdings beat expectations on revenue and whiffed on earnings per share.
Compared to the prior-year quarter, revenue shrank and GAAP earnings per share contracted significantly.
Gross margin expanded, operating margin expanded, and net margin dropped.
Seacor Holdings chalked up revenue of $561.8 million. The two analysts polled by S&P Capital IQ predicted revenue of $548.5 million on the same basis. GAAP reported sales were 3.2% lower than the prior-year quarter's $580.4 million.

Non-GAAP EPS came in at $0.63. The three earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ forecast $1.20 per share on the same basis. GAAP EPS of $0.79 for Q4 were 38% lower than the prior-year quarter's $1.27 per share.

For the quarter, gross margin was 23.2%, 20 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 7.5%, 70 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 3.0%, 170 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter.
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $559.8 million. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $1.21.
Next year's average estimate for revenue is $2.34 billion. The average EPS estimate is $5.86.
The stock has a four-star rating (out of five) at Motley Fool CAPS, with 108 members out of 113 rating the stock outperform, and five members rating it underperform.
