Portland General Electric Increases Sales but Misses Revenue Estimates

For the quarter ended Dec. 31 (Q4), Portland General Electric missed estimates on revenue and beat expectations on earnings per share.
Compared to the prior-year quarter, revenue increased and GAAP earnings per share improved.
Margins expanded across the board.
Portland General Electric booked revenue of $479.0 million. The three analysts polled by S&P Capital IQ foresaw sales of $499.7 million on the same basis. GAAP reported sales were 5.3% higher than the prior-year quarter's $455.0 million.

Non-GAAP EPS came in at $0.48. The nine earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ predicted $0.44 per share on the same basis. GAAP EPS of $0.38 for Q4 were 12% higher than the prior-year quarter's $0.34 per share.

For the quarter, gross margin was 43.8%, 160 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 14.4%, 60 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 6.1%, 60 basis points better than the prior-year quarter.
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $612.0 million. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $0.84.
Next year's average estimate for revenue is $1.90 billion. The average EPS estimate is $1.91.
The stock has a two-star rating (out of five) at Motley Fool CAPS, with 83 members out of 92 rating the stock outperform, and nine members rating it underperform.
