Eat Frito-Lay stuff and score loot in FarmVille, CastleVille and CityVille

As it turns out, that mysterious bag of Lay's potato chips with the FarmVille item offer was no hoax. Zynga has announced a tasty (and potentially unhealthy) promotion involving Frito-Lay's various bags of chips and FarmVille, CityVille and CastleVille. Between March 1 and April 12, fans of all three games can buy bags of five different Frito-Lay products to score exclusive items.

Over 3,400 Walmarts nationwide (near the checkout lines) will pack special displays of Classic Lay's, Nacho Cheese Doritos, Cheddar and Sour Cream Ruffles, Crunchy Cheetos and Funyuns. Each bag contains a code for redemption on the Game Card tabs above FarmVille, CityVille and CastleVille. Since each brand contains one item for each game, that's five new items for each and a total of 15 brand new items for Zynga's biggest 'Villes.

If you still think that's not enough snacks to gorge on for an entire month, there are even more items to be had. However, there's a catch. If you input the item codes for a single game from at least four out of five participating brands, and redeem a $15 or $25 Zynga Game Card in said game, you'll receive a "Super Item." So, if you redeem four codes in CastleVille from specially-marked Lay's, Doritos, Funyuns and Ruffles bags as well as a Zynga Game Card, you'll score a Red Knight's Horse.

While Zynga games have appeared on real-world products before, this looks to be the biggest (and most complicated) promotion yet. Because of this, the developer has created a dedicated web page for the Frito-Lay event. We know this event is tempting, but just remember to fit in some gym time after gobbling up all of those chips, OK?
