House of the Day: Museum-Turned-Mansion in Savannah

Why this maritime-museum-turned-luxury-manse in Savannah, Ga., is still on the market after three years, we have no idea.

The stunning 4,500 square foot home is located within Savannah's landmark historic district, and was built circa 1892. It's set on the banks of the Savannah River, offering scenic waterfront and city views. Plus, it boasts a sprawling, two-level wraparound roof deck built around a circular, 8-foot glass dome (see image above) that overlooks Emmett Park, the river and the glistening Talmadge Memorial Bridge. Take that, Atlanta.

House of the Day: Museum-Turned-Mansion in Savannah

Setting aside the fact that it used to house a model of the ship that carried the first 144 British colonists to Georgia shores, the $3.35 million home is just so pretty. Its arched windows, 17-foot painted ceilings, handmade Schumacher wallpaper (custom made to complement the river below) and -- the home's distinguishing architectural feature -- a gracefully spiraling staircase, rising from the lower bedroom level to the roof terrace, makes the home one of the most impressive we've seen.

The home also features three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a fully outfitted gourmet kitchen, two fireplaces and a library.

Celia Dunn of Sotheby's International Realty has the listing.
