Playdom quietly shutters Deep Realms... and no one noticed

Updated

Unless they actually played the game, that is. Back in March of 2011, Playdom launched Deep Realms on Facebook. The game's name was quite fitting, as this complex experience was a lot to get used to. Its beautiful graphics and RPG-esque storyline offered more than many other Facebook games can tout, but none of that was enough to keep the game alive, as Playdom has quietly discontinued the game on Facebook.

Gamezebo noticed the closure, which apparently happened last month. For all of the praise the game received, why didn't we notice that the game had closed? This seems to be a fairly standard situation with social games on Facebook. Even for all of the great gameplay elements and graphical polish the game contained, it simply didn't offer enough to keep gamers coming back for more in droves. Unfortunately, these social games tend to rely a lot on the help of friends, so playing a game alone - no matter how great it is at its core - offers less in the way of fun than playing the most popular games on the service.

Of course, this isn't the first time Playdom has closed a game in recent months, as Social City was closed in December and Playdom overall has fallen to the #22 developer spot in terms of monthly active users, according to AppData. Will Marvel: Avengers Alliance be enough to save the developer's seemingly never-ending downward spiral? We'll make sure to let you know, so stay tuned!

Were you a big fan of Deep Realms on Facebook, or did the game simply not offer enough to draw you in? Sound off in the comments.
