While details are sketchy at best, Zynga Japan has launched a monster-collection game on iOS in Japan called Montopia. From the game's images and official trailer [seen below], Montopia appears to be Zynga's take on the Pokemon genre, giving you a chance to collect different creatures while completing an overall storyline and quest.

Along the way, it looks like players will be allowed to meld or otherwise join multiple monsters together to form stronger creatures (along with standard evolutions of an individual creature), and can then battle them against other players. Monsters will earn new skills and can level up along the way. Like Pokemon, you'll be able to choose the gender of your character, and can then choose from a trio of starting monsters, which each look to have an environmental affinity (earth, water or fire being examples).

We've reached out to Zynga to learn if the company has any plans to bring Montopia to English-speaking territories, and will let you know as soon as we hear back. In the meantime, join me in staring longingly at these cute little creatures while hoping for some good news.

Would you be interested in trying Zynga's take on the Pokemon or monster collection genres? Have you had a chance to play Montopia yourself? Sound off in the comments.
