House of the Day: 2 Old Buildings Make 1 Cool Contemporary

We've shown you New York homes with saltwater aquariums, tiki bars, and in-home movie theaters. This one doesn't have any of that rot. And you know what? It doesn't need it.

Don't get us wrong, we're into the gimmicks. (Come on, who doesn't love a tiki bar?) But the bare, minimalist design on this $13.5 million West Village home is so simple and striking that it's enough to secure the home's cool factor all on its own.

On the outside, it looks like an old, worn carriage house, but on the inside, it's museum-like and filled with light. Designed specifically to house a significant art collection, the 6,676-square-foot contemporary -- that's actually two structures combined --boasts a number of "double-height" spaces and a multitude of skylights (we love the one directly above the bathtub). Essentially, the whole home is all windows and bare walls -- adorned tastefully with jaw-dropping art.
