House of the Day: Live on a Magical Island

Updated

I don't know about you, but I've always wanted to live on a magical island. (Maybe I just read too much Enid Blyton as a kid.) If you're anything like me, then you'll be thrilled to discover that there really are "secret" islands on which ridiculously beautiful homes exist.

Exhibit A: This truly exceptional, $21.9 million mansion on Bay Island in Newport Beach, Calif. The highly exclusive Bay Island has been described by some as a "magical island," which sits out in the middle of the turning basin in Newport Harbor. Apparently, the island is "not well known," as it is privately owned by a small handful of families who allow little access to the public. Which is a shame, because the homes on Bay Island are really worth showing off.

This one, located on the north point of the island, is no exception. A refreshing respite from the typical California McMansion, this Balinese-style home boasts tropical greenery throughout, Eastern-style wooden ceiling fans affixed to thatched ceilings, rich color themes, and stunning, waterfront outdoor decks with fire pits. Plus, the 5,415-square-foot, five-bedroom, seven-bath home is flanked by water on all sides and looks out onto the harbor and a private dock.

Our favorite feature? The home's infinity pool and waterfall, which overlook your own private beach.
