Techne Increases Sales but Misses Estimates on Earnings

Techne (NAS: TECH) reported earnings on Jan. 31. Here are the numbers you need to know.

Techne tallied revenue of $74.7 million. The five analysts polled by S&P Capital IQ wanted to see sales of $76.5 million. Sales were 10% higher than the prior-year quarter's $67.7 million.

EPS details
Non-GAAP EPS came in at $0.73. The three earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ anticipated $0.79 per share on the same basis. GAAP EPS of $0.70 for Q2 were 1.4% lower than the prior-year quarter's $0.71 per share.

Margin details
For the quarter, gross margin was 73.9%, 360 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 50.5%, 470 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 34.6%, 460 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter.

Looking ahead
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $85.6 million. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $0.88.

Next year's average estimate for revenue is $322.4 million. The average EPS estimate is $3.30.

Investor sentiment
