It's only fitting for one of the main guys behind some of "core" gaming's most well-known franchises to host an award show celebrating the greats. Epic Games' design director Cliff Bleszinski, known best for contributions to the acclaimed Gears of War franchise, will host the 12th annual Game Developers Choice (GDC) Awards during the Game Developers Conference (also GDC ... confusing, we know) at 6:30 p.m. PST on March 7 in San Francisco.

Bleszinski's spot hosting the GDC Awards will follow PocketWatch Games founder Andy Schatz's hosting of the 14th annual Independent Games Festival (IGF) Awards, which will show on the same night. It's his fourth stint hosting the IGF Awards. And for the third year running, GameSpot will live stream both shows through its website, YouTube and more for those that can't make it.

The nominees for the 2012 GDC Awards were released earlier this month, and unfortunately social games aren't considered due to their consideration in the annual GDC Online Awards. However, the best mobile games of 2011 (at least in GDC's organizers' opinion) are present and accounted for. And two of our favorite free iPhone games of 2011 made the cut, Tiny Tower and Jetpack Joyride. But really, can't every game on that list of nominees win?
