House of the Day: Beachfront Home Is Perfection Cubed

Updated

Let's just set the objectivity aside for one post because the truth is, we just love this house. Every sprawling inch of it.

And we're not the only ones, either. The American Institute of Architects honored this $14.5 million beachfront beauty with an Excellence in Architecture Award in 2006, and since then, the Sarasota, Fla., home has continued to grace scores of "Best Beach Homes" lists across the country. Why? Well, with its innovative and daring sculptural design, vibrant exterior and interior, and its unique organization of living spaces into color-coded "cubes," it's more like a piece of art than a house. See for yourself.

Its architect, Guy Peterson, has said that he believes he achieved the exact "modern masterpiece" that he and the home's owners had originally envisioned. The unique, color-coded cubes of space throughout the 7,652-square-foot house reflect a privacy gradient that delineates public areas from shared spaces to the "children's zone." The home features five bedrooms, five bathrooms, and indoor and outdoor living and entertainment areas. No matter what part of the house you're in, you'll be blessed with ample sunlight and spectacular water views of the Siesta Key.

The 1.53-acre site also features beautifully landscaped gardens, a large swimming pool, a volleyball court and a fire pit ideal for family gatherings. With a pretty face and personality to boot -- what more could you ask for?

Michael Saunders & Company has the listing.
