House of the Day: Hobnob With Wang in Haute Manhattan Co-op

Updated

CORRECTION: A previous version of this article stated that the duplex for sale belongs to Vera Wang. While Wang resides in the building, the unit for sale is not hers.

To the well-heeled, stiletto-wearing fashionistas of the world -- why fly to Paris when you can share an elevator with fashion icon Vera Wang in this posh Park Avenue co-op?

The landmark highrise at 740 Park was designed by leading architects of the early 20th century, Rosario Candela and Arthur Harmon, and was developed by Jackie Kennedy Onassis' grandfather, James T. Lee. Built in 1930, the classic pre-war building has also housed some of New York City's most elite and moneyed denizens, from Jackie O herself to members of the Rockefeller and Vanderbilt clans, Realtor.com reports. To that list of avant-garde trailblazers, you can add a new name -- the queen of haute couture, Vera Wang, who owns her own two-story unit in the building. It's no surprise, then, that this dazzling duplex is selling for $25 million.

With its marble staircase and entryway, sprawling living room, wood-lined library and panoramic views of the Manhattan skyline via three spacious terraces, the lavish apartment epitomizes New York's understated (but never under-priced) aesthetic. Just like your prospective neighbor's signature wedding dresses, the place is anything but modest -- the 14-room spread includes four bedrooms, 4.5 baths, and a 35-by-20-foot living room.

Kathy Sloane from Brown Harris Stevens has the listing.
