General Mills Meets on the Top Line, Misses Where It Counts
General Mills (NYS: GIS) reported earnings on Dec. 20. Here are the numbers you need to know.

For the quarter ended Nov. 27 (Q2), General Mills met expectations on revenues and missed on earnings per share.
Compared to the prior-year quarter, revenue increased, and earnings per share dropped significantly.
Margins contracted across the board.

Non-GAAP EPS came in at $0.76. The 17 earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ anticipated $0.79 per share on the same basis. GAAP EPS of $0.67 for Q2 were 27% lower than the prior-year quarter's $0.92 per share.

For the quarter, gross margin was 34.5%, 570 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 15.5%, 480 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 9.6%, 550 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter.
