You're No. 1! 3 Ways To Rock Your Job At The Top
Just got promoted? That's great! Your hard work really paid off this time. You're in a position that you love at a great company and you're being recognized for your work. Nothing could be better.
Once you're there, what is there to do next? How can you be the best employee in this position?
It's not as hard as it seems. There are plenty of opportunities for folks like you to rock your job at the top after a big promotion.
Check out these three things you can try:
1. Keep going.
Like the Energizer Bunny, keep doing what you do best! You obviously are doing the right thing if you have been promoted or recognized for your achievements, so keep at it. Sometimes, we find ourselves excelling and not knowing why. If that's the case, simply ask. Talk to your supervisors about your performance and discuss their likes/dislikes.
2. Offer ideas.
Now that you're in a higher position, your voice will be heard more clearly and usually by more people, so use it! Brainstorm ideas with your fellow employees and offer them to your supervisor. This tells them that you enjoy your new position, you involve your peers and subordinates when exploring opportunities for improvement, and you want to see the company succeed.
Remember to always give credit where credit is due. Self-promotion is important in your career development, but never at the expense of another. Believe this irrefutable truth -- while self-promotion may get you ahead in your job, finding the rock stars on your team and promoting them will get you further in life.
3. Remember where you started.
Whether you started as an intern or networked your way into a good job, remember how hard it is to be at the bottom of the totem pole. Reach out to new hires and interns by offering to answer any questions. You'd be surprised how much that will help them.
Also, consider becoming a mentor, or assigning one to new employees. Whether your company has an internship program of its own or there is an active group in your industry, help them find the resources that will teach them the ropes and get them up to speed faster. Your experience and the interaction with others who have professional scars is incredibly valuable to your new recruits.
