House of the Day: Recreation Is a Mile High and Year-Round

Updated

Evergreen, Colo., where this $11.8 million compound nestles into mountain pines, is a little different than your typical Colorado jet-setter vacation town: While it does provide easy access to nearby ski resorts, the Denver suburbis just as popular for its summer recreation.

Just a half-hour or so from Denver, the town contains popular summer-oriented resorts that put residents in close proximity to Evergreen Lake. Like Denver, the area has an unusually mild climate. Wikipedia tells us that it's not uncommon to see vacationers strolling around in shorts in the dead of winter. Fishing, hiking, boating and horseback riding are some of the most popular summer activities there.

With four guesthouses in addition to its 14,742-square-foot mansion, the residence is a compound with an enormous 45,890-square-foot equestrian center. The main house boasts nine bedrooms and nine bathrooms along with a great room, jet-action tub, media room, five-car garage and sauna. The property also has investor appeal: It may be subdivided into three parcels.
