Toys R Us to Hire 40,000 for the Holidays

If you're looking for a seasonal job, here's your chance. Toy retailer Toys R Us announced Thursday that it would hire 40,000 workers this holiday season. Beginning this week and running through November, the company is accepting applications for a range of jobs around the U.S.

In a press release, Executive Vice President of Human Resources Dan Caspersen said "We are proud to create tens of thousands of jobs across the country this Christmas, while providing the potential for hardworking individuals to find a permanent position with us."

In previous years, the company has hired between 35,000-45,000 holiday workers. And with millions of Americans still out of work, the holidays will offer an opportunity to earn some extra cash. According to a new report from Challenger, Gray & Christmas, a global outplacement firm that tracks hiring and firing, companies are expected to hire around the same or less than last year's 627,600 jobs from October through December.

While Toys R Us says some holiday jobs may turn into full-time positions, that certainly won't be a reality for many seasonal workers this year as companies remain reluctant to hire permanently amid a sluggish economy.
