House of the Day: Hovering Over Hollywood

Sited on the rolling hills above Hollywood, this otherworldly cube of steel and glass was the final house built by esteemed architect Pierre Koenig. And if you take a look at the place, called the Michael Gantert Residence, you'll see that Koenig finished with a flourish.

Marvelously cantilevered over its slope, the home built in 1981 appears to hover above ground when viewed from Hollywood Boulevard, creating just the sort of effect -- achieved through delicate cooperation between nature and architecture -- that distinguished Koenig's work.
