CLASH: Rise of Heroes gets super artsy in new Facebook update

After a year on Facebook, Qunify Games' CLASH: Rise of Heroes, a superhero collectible card game received a major art update, as well as a partnership with Making Fun, a social games publishing division of Rupert Murdoch's News Corp.

Not bad for a game that had its roots as a Kickstarter project.

Featuring real-time card duels and interactive single-player missions involving over 100 characters with unique biographies (see the characters trailer) and designs commissioned to emerging artists, the CLASH superhero universe has easily co-opted the style and sense of scale of comics publishing giants, such as Marvel and DC Comics.

You can check out all the characters and their bios by loading the game, clicking on the Info tab, and then selecting Vault. Any comic book nerd would get a kick out of reading about the characters and attempting to guess what comic book inspirations the artists must've drawn from.

A majority of the art appears to be handled by Jos Fouts, Alex Dai, and Gerard Fernandez, but there's also a few commissions by artists Fernando Ken, Michael Packer, and Henry Martinez. On top of that, CLASH has just released a bunch of new cards called the "Artists Series" that are drawn by more established artists. The first set is by German-born Syrian artist, Hanzo Steinbach. Steinbach has some comics work under his belt, as a cover artist for a Ghostbusters graphic novel, and as the creator of the manga-inspired, A Midnight Opera, published by TokyoPop. But I've always found supervillains more interesting than the superheroes, so here's my personal favorite villainous vixen from the game, Kiss. You meet her rather early on in CLASH at the Oval Office. Whether I'm a superhero or a supervillain, Kiss is certainly a welcome sight as well as a dangerous foe.
