Total Recall: GM Cars, Phillips Light Bulbs and Miss Bonnie's Gourmet Spread

GM Reins in Impalas and LaCrosse Sedans
General Motors (GM) is recalling more than 14,000 recently built cars -- including 10,344 Impalas, built from April 19 through July 29, and 4,077 Buick LaCrosse cars, built from June 9 through July 2.
The Impalas need to have their power-steering hoses checked because of a potential fire hazard. The LaCrosse sedans may have faulty stability-control systems that could cause crashes. Dealers will fix both problems, if necessary, free of charge, once the recall begins this month. For more information, customers can call Chevrolet at 800-630-2438 or Buick at 866-608-8080.
On Thursday, Philips Lighting said it would recall approximately 1.86 million EnergySaver (aka Marathon or Marathon Classic) Compact Fluorescent Dimmable Reflector lamps because the bulbs pose a laceration hazard. Reportedly, "the glue that attaches the glass outer envelope or globe to the body of the lamp can fail," allowing the glass bulb to fall and shatter and potentially damage people and property.
The recall covers models R30, R40 and PAR 38 that were manufactured between March 2007 and May 2010 -- and sold between March 2007 and July 2011 nationwide -- for between $11 and $24. Consumers should call Philips for a free replacement at 866-622-6372.
Miss Bonnie's Bad News
Also on Thursday, the Food and Drug Administration announced that Miss Bonnie's Gourmet would recall its Gourmet Classic Cheddar Cheese spread because of a potential salmonella contamination.
According to the FDA, customers who purchased containers of the spread -- with the product code number 0116206G113 and a 'Best By Date' of Dec. 23 -- between Aug. 1 and Aug. 10 should return them to the stores where they were purchased for full refunds. No other Miss Bonnie's products have been implicated in the scare, and fortunately no illnesses have been reported. Symptoms of salmonella poisoning include fever, diarrhea (possibly bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
