Walmart Warns Shoppers of Recalled Papayas

Walmart recently warned its shoppers about papayas sold in its stores after the fresh fruit was possibly linked to a salmonella outbreak that has sickened 97 people in 23 states and is currently under investigation by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Walmart posted the recall from distributor Agromod Produce Inc. on its website, noting that the fruit had been sold in its stores.

Agromod recalled all of its fresh, whole papayas sold before Saturday (July 23) in stores nationwide and in Canada because they could be contaminated with salmonella, the FDA said. Salmonella can cause a potentially life-threatening infection in young children, the elderly or those with weakened immune systems. Even healthy people can suffer from fever, nausea and diarrhea.
