Did Ozzy & Sharon Bite Off Too Much?
What's up with this? Sure those crazy Osbournes have had their Malibu beach house on and off the market for years now. (It's currently on at $10 million.) But now they've gone and listed their Hidden Hills main residence at $12,999,000.
Has a little financial darkness fallen on the prince? Some think so. The U.K.'s Daily Mail points to a tax lien against the aging heavy metalist and his self-proclaimed shopaholic wife, which, the paper says, could result in the loss of one of their seven homes. It's hard to imagine that two years of unpaid taxes totaling $1.8 million could topple heavy metal's golden couple, whose net worth was estimated at $147 million in 2009, but who's to say?
A few months ago, Sharon Osbourne tweeted: "You can't rely on anyone but yourself. You have to be on top of your own business affairs. My fault ... lesson learned." Hmmmm, sounds like a business manager about to have his head bitten off. Oh wait, that's Ozzy's thing, and that was a mistake, really.
Still, we are sure the Osbournes won't be moving into a Frigidaire box under the freeway anytime soon. They've probably just spent too long in the 'burbs, which is what Hidden Hills is all about. Located in the steamy hot San Fernando Valley, right off the always-busy 101 Freeway, the gated community has guards that probably trained with the Gestapo. Sneaking into Malibu Colony is easier than this place.
The house is about as un-Ozzy and Sharon as you can imagine. It's an 11,000-square-foot Cape Cod that sits atop 2.5 acres and was recently featured in Architectural Digest. There are six bedrooms with private baths, a guest apartment with kitchen, an intricately paneled study with a fireplace, formal dining room, dramatic foyer with floor-to-ceiling windows and a spiral staircase, and an expansive lower level studio-home theater.
The state-of-the-art kitchen has a walk-in pantry, center island, Wolf appliances and a breakfast nook. The family room features oversize, sliding barn-doors, a reclaimed-brick fireplace and beamed, vaulted ceilings.
Outside is even nicer, with rolling lawns, a pool with separate shallow pool area, a barbecue island, outdoor showering and bathroom facilities, and views of the surrounding hills.
The interiors were decorated by Martyn Lawrence-Bullard and defy any hint that the guy who hangs his electric guitar here is the former front man of Black Sabbath. Long gone is the contemporary Goth seen in the MTV reality series "The Osbournes."
