Virgin Atlantic Deportee Tries To Hurt Himself on Jamaica-Bound Flight

A Virgin Atlantic flight bound for Kingston, Jamaica was delayed on Monday after an immigrant being deported tried to harm himself while on board, the Associated Press reports.

The airline told the AP that the deportee, a Jamaican man, was "involved in a self-harm incident" before the flight took off from London's Gatwick airport.

Virgin declined to go into further detail.

Britain's Home Office says the man was being removed from the United Kingdom and he had been taken to the hospital for "superficial injuries."

The flight has been delayed until Tuesday, leaving the plane's 449 passengers in a hotel overnight.
