"By the beard of Mohamed and mighty sword of Allah," the graffito read.
The message was scrawled just above the mirror in the lavatory of a Continental Airlines jet bound for Little Rock, Ark., reports the New York Post. It was discovered by a flight attendant who took a picture on her cellphone and reported it to the plane's captain.
The captain notified his operations center, who then called the Transportation Security Administration. But, according to Port Authority police, the TSA took 47 minutes to respond to the report.
However, the TSA holds that it responded "within a few short minutes," according to the paper.
In the meantime, the passengers deboarded and the message was scrubbed off by a cleaner.
"The delay severely compromised the integrity of a crime scene," a police official told the Post.
