'Mass Brawl' Erupts On Barbados-Bound Virgin Atlantic Flight
Twelve British holidaymakers, en route from London's Gatwick airport to the Caribbean island, had to be separated on the plane after a fight broke out amongst passengers.
It's believed that a group, seemingly celebrating "something special," got into a tiff about halfway through the eight-hour flight after one woman started yelling at another.
Passenger Elsa Brandford, 70, told the paper: "It was unbelievable, it was like something out of a movie. I was looking at it and wondering if I was still watching my in-flight movie."
Brandford said that one woman yelled at another, "You swore in front of child," repeatedly, her voice escalating in volume each time. The woman then reportedly yelled, "And it's my birthday."
"There was about five minutes of shouting while people gathered around and before I knew it they were throwing punches and jumping on each other. Most of the people involved were sitting in that area and just standing on their seats while throwing punches. It was vicious. It was frightening. There were punches going off in all directions...People came round to try to split them up and about half an hour later they had it under control," Brandford said.
Following the fight, all passengers were ordered to stay in their seats for the rest of the flight, with bathroom breaks allowed only after two hours.
Police met the plane upon arrival in Barbados. Police told the Daily Mail that "ten to twelve passengers" had taken part in the fight, but refused to provide additional information.
Surprisingly (or perhaps not?), this isn't the first in-flight brawl to occur on a Virgin flight. In May, passenger Danielle Bishop alleged that a man tried to take her clothes off mid-flight, leading to an altercation that reportedly cost up to $40,000 to the plane. In October 2010, a drunken brawl on a flight to the United Kingdom forced the plane to divert to Newfoundland.
