Woman Takes Fatal Fall from Atlanta Hotel Window, Another in Critical Condition

One woman is dead and another is in critical condition after falling from a 10th floor balcony at an Atlanta W Hotel Saturday night.

Lashawna Threatt, 30, was celebrating her birthday with family at the W Atlanta-Midtown. After finishing dinner with friends and family, she headed to the hotel with her fiancée Ray Hamilton around midnight to meet up with friends.

After spending time on the hotel's rooftop, the group moved to a hotel room.

"Everybody had just walked in and kicked off their shoes," Hamilton told the Atlanta Journal -Constitution. "There was no unruly activity, there was no one drunk, there was no party in the room," he said.

The friends had only been in the room about 10 minutes when the incident happened, around 3:15 A.M.

Threatt and her friend Cierra Williams, 25, were reportedly horseplaying and hugging near the window. After leaning back a bit too far, the pair went through.

Hamilton tried to save his girlfriend by grabbing onto her hair, but was unable to pull her back.

The women landed on a slanted sunroof joining the hotel. Threatt stayed on the roof, Williams rolled onto the sidewalk. She remains in critical condition at Grady Hospital.

"It appears that there was no malicious act, no foul play," Atlanta police homicide commander, Lt. Paul Guerrucci told the Journal-Constitution. "They were just wrestling with each other. They hit the window. The window broke. And they fell out."

"The incident at the W Atlanta early Saturday is very tragic and our thoughts and prayers are with the woman who was injured and the family and friends of the woman who died in the fall," hotel manager Michael O'Donohue told the paper.
