Marlee Matlin Owes IRS, Lists Pasadena Home at $899K

Updated

When an actress behaves honorably, we consider it news. Kudos to Marlee Matlin, a finalist on Donald Trump's "Celebrity Apprentice" show, for stepping up on getting her financial house in order. After publicly admitting that she owes $50,000 in back taxes to the IRS, she put her Pasadena home on the market for $899,000.

The Academy Award-winning Matlin bought the house in 1999 for $437,000 and wisely resisted the urge to move up the housing market madness in the ensuing years. She, her Burbank policeman husband and their four children have shared this modest four-bedroom English-style home that was built in 1937.

Matlin, who is well-known as an advocate for the hearing-impaired, won her Oscar for her role in "Children of a Lesser God." She told People magazine that she was unashamed of her IRS debt. "It doesn't mean I'm a bad person. It's reality. It's the reality that a lot of people in America are facing."

The actress isn't known as one of Hollywood's high-rollers. She lives in a middle-class neighborhood and is reportedly shopping for another home in a community with good public schools.
