Just like Facebook games, there is another genre of free-to-play games that equally as expansive: browser MMOs. Browser MMOs, or massively multiplayer online games, are generally free like Facebook games, and even offer micro-transactions like their social compatriots. In fact, some browser MMOs have even made the leap to the social network, most recently A Mystical Land.

So, what's the difference, then? Well, these free-to-play games generally feature real time, or synchronous, play styles and, in most cases, 3D visuals.
