Toddler Falls From Hotel Balcony, Fellow Guest Catches Her

WKMG Orlando

Amazingly unreal and uplifting news of the day: A toddler who was hanging from the balcony of an Orlando-area hotel four stories above the ground was miraculously caught by an English bystander who happened to be at the hotel's pool and saw the child.

Helen Beard, who was visiting from England, was at the pool around 9:15 p.m. at Econo Lodge when she spotted the 2-year old, Jah-Nea Myles, hanging from the balcony, the Associated Press reports.

The child's parents were inside their hotel room and had, somehow, not realized that their child was on the balcony. Presumably, the baby slipped through the railing along the balcony, WKMG, a local CBS affiliate reports.

Acting quickly, Beard caught the baby as she fell. A county spokeswoman said that it was a "miracle" that the baby is OK. The child didn't have a scratch on her, but was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

Fittingly, the Florida Department of Children and Families will investigate.
